A page written about me… by me?

Isn’t this the page that I’m supposed to write in the third-person… about myself…pretending that it isn’t really me writing these words but my agent/PR person/copy-writer/etc?

Well, I’m not going to do that here.

Because I am a writer. And because I am passionate about the process of writing. I believe that everyone has something important to say and that getting your feelings into words on the page is always an adventure in self-discovery.

So as I write this, perhaps I’ll also find out something new about me. In fact, I’m certain I will.

There’s the obvious stuff. For example, I’m Sophie Nicholls. I’m an author, poet, hypnotherapist and researcher in the field of creative writing and personal development.

But then there’s the less obvious stuff. Such as how these activities, experiences and findings have all come together here in the words that you’re now reading about Hypnotic Journaling.

You know, even now, I still get excited at the ways in which my different activities and interests - writing, hypnosis, mindfulness, the work I do as a therapist, the seminars and courses that I design and run - continue to come together in new and surprising ways.

I have taught my Hypnotic Journaling techniques to people in business who feel stressed out, unhappy or that they have lost touch with a vital part of themselves; people who have suffered pain and trauma, including survivors of imprisonment and political torture; people living with long-term illness and their relatives; university students; and, of course, my private clients.

I am still researching these ideas, drawing upon concepts from cognitive science, psychodynamic theory, consciousness studies and my own practical studies to find the best methods for helping people to achieve lasting change.

And I use these techniques every day in my own life. Yes, I really do.

And there it is. That’s the new thing about me that I’ve just discovered in the process of writing this web page. I really do need to write every day. I am 100% convinced by my own copy.

To be absolutely honest, I don’t have to swim or go to the gym everyday, although I know that it’s good for me. But I have to write. It’s that important.

Hypnotic Journaling is not a gimmick or a vague idea but an absolute conviction that I hold - based on daily experience. Writing can change your life. It can help you to be happier, more focused, more comfortable with yourself, to let-go of the past, to envision a new future, to play with ideas and possibilities, to become more aware of what you’re thinking and feeling and the words you usually use about yourself.
